Family Dinner for Gj on her 27th Birthday! (Yakimix, Tomas Morato)

Posted on Sunday, December 4, 2011 | 2 comments

The pretty birthday girl...

Last night, we celebrated Gj's 27th birthday at Yakimix Tomas Morato. I figured out that I might have to forget my dieting for a night.

ViVi with Joanne and Baby David and Gj...

There were a gazillion of us so we had to transfer from table to table as each family arrives.

Such a candid moment... Please picture out the chaos...

We arrived first so we got a big table, then our Aunts came and so we had to transfer to a bigger table until another Aunt came and the waiters had to assist us to the biggest table. It was really fun. Although I kinda saw the faces of the waiters and the hassle we gave them. Im sure they did not mind.

Happy Birthday again to Engineer Lady Bug and may all your dreams come true!

Knowing The Worth Of An Ounce Of Blood

Free WiFi at the Siaton Plaza...

My stay in Siaton (my hometown) was quite short but it was relaxing and it gave me an insight on my priorities in life.

My admiration for my brother is beyond compare. He is the most determined and most understanding person I know.

The moment I arrived home it was my brother who picked me up at the bus terminal. The last time I went home (2 years ago), it was not one of his skills. I felt proud but a bit guilty because at some point I told my mom not to let my brother drive because he was too young. When they bought his ride, Mom and Pop did not tell me.

That same night, I asked my brother to drive me around town because I wanted to visit some of my friends. But I forgot that in my hometown, everybody sleeps as early as 9 o'clock in the evening. So my brother and I just did an OBT (One Big Tuyok) around town and checked-out the new must-see drinking and hang out places.

The next day, Mom, Pop, and I had a little catch-up session before Uncle Melvie came asking us to have lunch at Lola Inday's place. As usual, my Pop stayed at home while Mom and I went to Lola Inday's place to have a little tete-a-tete with family and friends.

This kind of gatherings remind me of Sunday lunches and the games I play with my cousins. Most of the kids are no longer kids but we still bully them.

Among my cousins, I'm closest to Dovie because we were batch mates in elementary and we kinda grew up together. Even when we were in high school wherein we went to different schools in Dumaguete, we still wait for each other at the bus terminal so we can go home together. She wears her Silliman University High School uniform while I wear Saint Louis School - Don Bosco. The one-hour trip wasn't enough for our catch-up chika.

Dovie and ViVi in front of the old tambayan where endless chikka happened...

Dovie lives in Lola Inday's house which is a stone-throw away from my house. And seeing her again made me reminisce at how our childhood was. Dodong Rey was also at the gathering flirting with Ginoben, which I expected to see given that Ginoben was his first kiss. Eeeeeehhh! (Kilig!) I was also surprised that Ginoben was present. I thought he's in Guam.

To complete the family lunch, I had to take the blood pressure of every single person in the family. Even the kids asked me to get their BP! But I obliged myself to do it since these gatherings don't happen everyday. It got me drained, so I slept the whole afternoon. Pop did the same thing.

Johane on her wedding day... =)

Later that night, Gj dropped by at my place to get her accessories. She left it in Manila so I had to bring it with me. Even when I was younger, my parent were a bit overprotective. They abhor my night-outs! They don't get the point why young people do it. But this time, they did not react too much. My mom simply wanted to confirm that we're going home before 12 o'clock midnight. Nobody goes home like Cinderella. I'm not going to do something stupid that will destroy the family's reputation anyway.

Gj, Dovie, and I went to our friend, Johane's place to invite her for some drinks. BUT!!! She has a baby already and her baby was quite sick that night so she was not able to join us. We were left with no choice but to take care of the booze on our own. Good thing, Ruel was there and he invited Norberto and Julius to join us. Both are cute guys and so I just flirted with them the whole night! (KILIG!!!) Norberto drove me home and the most embarassing part was an image of myself puking near a burger stand in what was considered the Time Street of my hometown. I guess I just ruined the untarnished reputation of my family.

The culprit!!!

The next day, I received a sermon from my mom. She was quite effective when she told me the story about Uncle Timmy and how he is at the moment. According to my mom, when Uncle Timmy was younger and richer he had so many friends. He partied a lot and he had boys - a lot of them! But now that he is old and poor, nobody notices Uncle Timmy. My mom described Uncle Timmy as thin and "gusgusin". She pities him so much and my Mom doesnt want that to happen to me. What a very nice story. It touched me.

But of course, I had to clarify with my mom that I don't spend money on my boys! They spend it on me. But it still got me thinking of how I should lead my life. It made me realize that maybe I should take care more of my body and of course my family. As the Spanish proverb goes, an ounce of blood is worth more than a pound of friendship. I just thought that my Mom is tired of competing with my friends.

Actually, she doesn't need to. I just need to reassure her that I value my family as much as my friends. And it made me feel so guilty and so to make up for it, I must do something to prove that they really are important to me.

Mudra.... Mudra.... Mudra....

I always make it a point to stay at home on Sundays. But I guess, there are times that it gets inevitable. Just like last week. My mom was here in Manila for the weekend and of course I had to be her chaperon. And when I am so tired, I just rant and make faces and why we have to buy things for other people.

But I realized that she's right. We have to share and give back to people who have been kind to us. Even the rude ones deserve some love. That's why I admire my mother so much.

On the other hand, I think that we are both scared to know the truth or inquire about it.

My mom trying to ease her way in asking what I really want out of life and who I wanna be with. And me not knowing how to make it easy for them to accept who I really am.

As they say, I think we should just stop thinking and just live with that we see. What we both see is what we get.

Her visit to Manila was fast but I seriously think that it was meaningful. I had fun going around with her at the malls as she shops. I saw how patient she was. I saw how humble she is. And I just love her. When we talk, I raise my voice sometimes and she also does the same thing. But we still laugh at each other at the end of the day.

I also learned that she doesnt drink cold water anymore. She gets sick when she's exposed to the AC for a long time. She's quite tolerant now with the way I dress up, which is really a good thing.

But I guess, that is how it goes. The people you love are difficult to understand but you still love them anyway.

When I tell her to just stick on the list that she brought so we dont lose focus and buy the things that we dont need. She would comment that I lack spontaneity. When I am with her, it makes me mature and childish or whatever.

I heart my Mudra... I love my Pudra too and my brother. But our bond is different. We have a connection. A tight one. A very tight one...

Good Friday Until Easter Sunday - Manila Hotel

Posted on Saturday, April 30, 2011 | 0 comments

Last week, my girls and I checked-in at the Manila Hotel. We opted to just stay in Manila because we dint wanna stress ourselves out. All we need is a new venue to relax without braving the traffic at all express ways.

Honestly, we were all dreaming of Sofitel but the moment we found out that the rates were a little bit out of the budget we wanted to look for another hotel that can be at par with Sofitel.

Voila! We found Manila Hotel.

The moment we stepped-out of the car, we felt like a part of Philippine history. Their was an air of hospitality and the chandeliers were humongous, you cant afford to miss it.

Aside from the payment we made through the credit card, the hotel asked ₱5,000 for the incidental damages. But you don't need to worry because they will be giving it back the moment you check out from the hotel as long as you did not destroy any stuff inside the hotel room. Our room costs ₱4,500 per night but because we stayed there for two days, we were able to get it for ₱8,000. The price was too right. Very practical.

The hotel stay includes a buffet breakfast at Cafe Ilang-Ilang. If you are breakfast person then you'll really enjoy it because they have the best pastries and cold cuts on the table to satisfy your gastronomic cravings. The technique then is not too eat dinner and just eat a lot in the morning to cut-off on dinner costs.

We checked-out from the hotel on Easter Sunday and went home with no fuss. It was a pretty convenient trip compared to last year and yet we were still able to do the things we wanted to do and the things that we needed to do too.

Over all? The experience at the Manila Hotel was splendid and the photos tell it all.

The Day I Got My Velvet Planner from Starbucks

Posted on Friday, December 31, 2010 | 2 comments
Yes! The week is over... Three days of work was not so difficult to bear because I can even take 6 days of work per week... I cannot complain because this is what I have prayed for my whole life.... And I have waited for this for the longest time...

I got my Starbucks planner for 2011 (I got the VELVET one!) and I told myself that I should fill it up with my thoughts... Maybe it can lessen the stress I had to go through for saying yes to all the invites... I still need to practice the art of saying NO.

Auntie Jewel just came back from Siaton and brought with her so much stories... Some stories stressed the hell out of her though.

Sir Yon and I had a little misunderstanding but we were able to settle it before the day ended. He apologized for such a maligning comment which he thought was funny...

I'm sleeping at Gj's place... I wanted to sleep in my bed... Gj and I thought that we can still ask permission earlier tonight coz we had plans of going out... But unfortunately, Auntie Jewel started talking about her Siaton experiences which made us stay at home... Anyway, we enjoyed chitchatting after dinner so it was worth staying at home tonight...

Looking forward to a great long weekend... I'm sure by Monday... I'd be craving for more vacation...

I need to start planning for my party at Distillery next Saturday! =)

Desperate Christmas...

Posted on Monday, December 27, 2010 | 0 comments
I was ecstatic the whole week because I was looking forward to a 4-day vacation and the Christmas bonus... Too bad I did not get the latter but who cares... I just needed to see the brighter side of things...

Many things happened the whole week before Christmas...

  • My Uncle James arrived from France and gave me a new bag because he does not like the shiny bag that I have always used for work... Of course, I had to reason out that I like my shiny bag because everything just fits there... I can carry my whole life on my shoulders for the rest of the week... I can even bring with me our neighbors...

  • The night he arrived, he made it an issue that I always prioritize my friends ... And I became paranoid because I still have plans of asking something from him which might make it impossible to get given that I already have negative points from him since I always go out and party...

  • My patient for WBC tagging had a cardiac arrest... And so the senior nurse had to do the pumping inside the elevator on our way to the patients room... Good thing the senior nurse was really good and called for a MAXICART... What was nice? I saw my resident crushes there - Dr. Ybanez and that tall doctor he always goes around with... And they were very surprised that I was there... But seeing the relatives of the patient in such state pains my heart... Another good thing? The patient was revived... All the running was really toxic... But it felt good after the patient showed signs of cardiac activity...=)

  • Trisha and Ervy were at Glorietta but the moment I replied that I was dropping by, they were already at The Fort having coffee... I really tried my best to be very patient but to no avail... Taxis were very full and buses are not very nice options I should say... Hence, the cancellation of my appearance at the coffee shop... I just thought it was too inconvenient and unfair... I think its about time that they choose a coffee shop near MMC so I don't have to brave the Metro Manila traffic.

  • I bought gifts for my cousins at Trinoma after having my own cup of coffee alone... It was my second time to do it alone and I think I might do it more often... I'll just make sure that I have enough battery to entertain me coz it really gets boring at some point...

The whole day before Christmas... I was just home... I ate all the food that I thought was yummy... I also ate a lot of chocolates and COMBOS!!! I just dint like it much this time because the cheese was wrapped with pretzels...

It became a desperate Christmas because I watched the first ten episodes of Desperate Housewives season four...I just learned today that Season 4 has 17 episodes and the DVD I bought only had 10... And there were occasional cuts on the sound... Sometimes the actors just start becoming mute... I was very patient though because I thought that its about time that I de-stress myself...

The Reason Why Desperate Housewives Is Worth Your Time

Times have changed... I kinda like older men these days... I like them with a lot of experience...

Vitori Made Colorful Desserts

We made this colorful and yummy dessert for my cousin Mitzi, who celebrated her birthday yesterday.

Motherly Vitori and His Secret Recipe

Posted on Thursday, August 12, 2010 | 21 comments

"Mothers do extra-ordinary things in their own simple ways."

Motherly duties are not at all my forte. I can take minimal motherly tasks though like doing the dishes (my own but is negotiable) and the laundry (my own and will never change)!

I was home alone the whole day because my Uncle had to go to his friends house and his wife's store. So I had to fend for myself. Cook my own food and take care of his kids. Take note. Take care of his kids and that includes cooking dinner for them. I did not realize that those motherly instincts can resurface at any given time.

"I should've made my life easier by ordering french fries from the nearest McDonalds!"

As soon as the kids arrived from school, they asked me if I know how to cook French Fries and of course I said YES without any hesitation! Time for dinner and my Uncle has not arrived yet, they asked what's for dinner. Hence, I cooked rice, re-fried the fish I found on the fridge, reheated the vegetables and sauteed some Purefoods Corned Beef with Magic Sarap and Star Margarine (Iwas just experimenting.) But the kids liked it or maybe they were left without a choice.

"Gourmet Corned Beef Ingredients"

It did not end there. While watching my daily dose of Magkaribal, I saw my cousin Mitzi working hard on her t-shirt design project. She was meticulously and painstakingly inserting the needle with a thread on the littlest hole on that sequin. So I decided to help her out with the flower and Philippine map painting to save her from doing more mess on her designs.
"Good thing Mitzi did not do the same thing on her hands."

At the end of the day, I smiled at myself because I think I've done a pretty good job! (Applause please!)
